Joar Tranøy is a criminologist, (MA), psychologist, historian and researcher in Norway. He has written many scientific articles and books.

He did research at Oslo University and Østfold University.

Since 1988, Joar Tranøy has done extensive research on psychiatry in Norway. His most important contribution is his exposure of the misrepresentation of the history of lobotomy.
